• [Countdown] Tag Team Match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill (c) defeated Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell by pinfall.
• Singles Match for the Women’s World Championship: Liv Morgan defeated Becky Lynch (c) by pinfall to win the title!
• Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship: Sami Zayn (c) defeated Bronson Reed and Chad Gable by pinfall on Reed.
• Queen of the Ring Tournament Finals: Nia Jax defeated Lyra Valkyria by pinfall.
• King of the Ring Tournament Finals: Gunther defeated Randy Orton by pinfall.
• Singles Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) defeated Logan Paul by pinfall.

Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

Countdown – Women’s Tag Team Championship Match

• I still don’t get why this is a TWO HOUR pre-show that will feature 1 match and analysis of only 5 matches. Dedicate 5 minutes to talking about each match, a half hour for the match in total with entrances and all, and 5 minutes for other filler and you can get this done in an hour. I’m not interested in watching another 60 minutes of “Isn’t Saudi Arabia great?”
• More than likely, there won’t be anything to talk about in this section, but I’ll still be watching. I’ll fall on that sword for all of you. Go away and relax and save yourself the 2 hours. I’ll report for you if you missed anything.
• A full hour down. There’s been nothing but talking, and none of it has been particularly interesting. These events are becoming 60% filler/commercials.
• Finally, at 12:34, the one and only pre-show match is about to begin. Yikes. A full 90 minutes worth of nonsense. I could have watched a movie in the meantime.
• The story for the past few matches has been Bianca Belair’s bum leg. That’s continuing here, allowing her to take the punishment while Jade Cargill stands on the outside.
• To no surprise, the champions retain. They had a solid tag team finisher with an assisted DDT into a wheelbarrow suplex from Jade with Bianca kicking Candice up into position. Very cool.

Women’s World Championship Match

• Becky Lynch is somewhat channeling her inner Annie Lennox I guess with her outfit (or maybe I just have that song in my head). Sweet dreams are made of this. Meanwhile, Liv Morgan is full-blown Britney Spears “Oops!…I Did It Again” instead with a red jumpsuit.
• Dominik Mysterio is out here. He tosses a chair in the ring to Becky, but this is all a ruse, I’m sure. They’re definitely pushing that future split between Dom and Rhea Ripley down the line. It leads to a series of distractions where Liv is able to capitalize and get the pin on Becky. We have a new champion!
• It was a fine enough match, but the biggest thing is the continuation of the Liv and Dom story and the title change. That’s what really matters.

Intercontinental Championship Match

• Only Otis is out here to accompany Chad Gable. Considering he was the only one to (reluctantly) take the initiative to help Gable cheat the other day, it makes sense it’s just Otis.
• “Stick with the plan. Remember what I told you, when the time is right?” Gable tells him. #Foreshadowing.
• Nice sunset flip powerbomb off the turnbuckle from Sami Zayn to Bronson Reed.
• Blue Thunder Bomb to Reed doesn’t get the win for Zayn, but close.
• Lots of back-and-forth action. This is a competitive match. I dig it.
• Gable slaps Otis for not being fully in the zone to help him cheat. He holds up Gable in the hopes Otis will clothesline him, but Zayn ducks. Otis inadvertently takes out Gable instead. That opens up some room for Zayn to eventually hit a Helluva Kick on Reed to score the victory.
• Gable is pissed after the match, glaring at Otis, as Zayn celebrates with the crowd.

Time for some more propaganda. Go take your bathroom breaks.

Queen of the Ring Tournament Finals

• Obviously, the story of this match is Nia Jax’s size and power (and veteran status) over Lyra Valkyria’s speed, finesse and more versatile moveset. I expect to see most of this revolve around Jax working over Valkyria, who will fire up and get some shots in here and there to fight back.
• In a throwback to the “my hole” era, Jax takes a butt bump on the apron and then yells out “Aaaah! That hurt!”
• Not too much else to talk about here. Jax eventually hits the Annihilator, crashing down on Valkyria for the win. Remember, that means she gets a title shot for SummerSlam against whoever is holding the WWE Women’s Championship (assuming Bayley).
• Triple H presents Nia Jax with the crown. They share a long hug and a lot of inaudible chatter. It seems like this might be a legit big moment for Jax, who is emotional as the crowd boos her.
• Kayla Braxton interviews her. “I know none of you are happy for me, but I’m happy for me.” She vows to win the title at SummerSlam.

King of the Ring Tournament Finals

• It’s interesting that it took what, 15 years, for the crowd to start singing Randy Orton’s theme, and now, they can’t help but to do it.
• Even match. I’m glad this wasn’t the Randy Orton rest hold fest that I saw a lot of people online thinking it would be.
• Gunther’s being positioned as the powerhouse with The Viper not having a full tank of gas for most of his traditional moves.
• RKO to Gunther! But Orton can’t capitalize fast enough, and Gunther rolls out of the ring before a pinfall is even attempted.
• Gunther gets slammed onto the commentary table. He doesn’t go through it, so Orton goes for a second slam. The table still doesn’t collapse. No third attempt is made as Gunther is back in control now.
• Scratch that, Orton slams Gunther a third time. The commentary table is STILL solid. Talk about craftsmanship.
• Orton hits another RKO. This time, he gets to go for a pin. But Gunther reverses and…somehow gets the pin despite Orton’s shoulders definitely not being down for the count. That was awkward, and a bad ending to an otherwise good match.
• They’re specifically using a different camera angle in the recap because they know Orton’s shoulders were up. And you can still see Orton’s shoulder up even in that angle. There’s NO good shot of this. Corey Graves even says “I’d like to get another angle…” Awful.
• Triple H presents Gunther with the crown in a much more understated way than he did with Nia Jax.

Crown Jewel has been announced for November 2, 2024.

Backstage, Triple H breaks some news that Drew McIntyre is cleared to compete. It is official that he will face Damian Priest at Clash at the Castle. The crowd got all excited when he said he was making that official right now, as they thought they were getting an impromptu match. They went silent when he specified June 15th in Glasgow.

WWE Championship Match

• Ibrahim Al Hajjaj is your special guest ring announcer.
• This has been a little sloppy. I’m not digging it anywhere near as much as I thought I was going to.
• I JUST noticed that the Prime bottle isn’t in the center of the ring. Wasn’t that supposed to be on every premium live event going forward?
• Someone in the stands (a plant, not a fan) puts his hands on Cody Rhodes, who throws him over the security barricade. This causes a distraction where another person hands a pair of brass knuckles to Logan Paul, who uses it to punch the champ in the stomach, continuing the story that Cody’s ribs are in danger during this match.
• Cody gets back in charge, eventually, after Logan Paul gets into a verbal altercation with the commentary team over using the brass knuckles.
• Cody Cutter for a two-count.
• Paul hits a Cross Rhodes, but obviously doesn’t get the job done. That’d be insane if he beat Cody for the title with his own move.
• Paul would have been counted out, but Rhodes waved off the referee from finishing the 10-count. Why is his character booked to be so dumb, so consistently? The guy spent an entire year not going after Roman Reigns (specifically not even trying to get in the Money in the Bank ladder match and such), eventually gave up his Royal Rumble win to The Rock just because, got duped into this not being for both titles and doesn’t want to win by count out. WWE has to stop making him a fool or he’s going to come off as a weak champion rather than just a throwback to old school babyfaces.
• And of course, it bites him in the rear, as Paul gets back in control and splashes Rhodes through the commentary table. He follows it up with a frog splash in the ring for a two-count.
• The referee takes a bump and is taken out. Cody hits a Vertebreaker, but no one is there to count the fall yet.
• Logan Paul low-blows Cody and preps the brass knuckles for another punch. But then, Ibrahim Al Hajjaj grabs Paul’s leg to stop him. Cody hits a trifecta of Cross Rhodes for the win.
• On paper, this reads better (not from what I’ve been writing, but if WWE were to keep it kayfabe) than what the actual presentation was in my mind. It sounds like it’s a textbook heel giving a textbook babyface an obstacle to overcome. They did that. I just think it could have been significantly better.
