What is code 3753 Cummins? ›

This fault indicates that the unit is either not getting hot enough or the dpf cannot drop the soot level. There are many possibilities on this. As it is monitored this will be able to pin point exactly what is not right.

Abnormal Update Rate: Any failure detected when receipt of data via the data link or as input from a smart actuator or smart sensor is not at the update rate expected or required by the ECM (outside Region c of the signal range definition).

4277 and 6767 have to do with the DEF quality sensor not reporting or reporting erratically, engine possibly derated. The best way to diagnose is to call Cummins and get field service to look at it as it should still be under warranty.

Codes 6254, 6255, & 3712 are all derated codes that occur when another fault is causing the actual problem. As you can see from the list, the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) codes are the top 3 most common fault codes if you ignore the derate codes.

Software and a diagnostic tool are generally needed for this. Using a code reader tool, connect to the ECM and find the “fault codes” tab. The displayed codes can generally be clicked on one by one. Another option is to select “erase all faults” and then follow the onscreen instructions.

This failure mode is identified by the Cummins Engine fault code 3575, which eventually leads to derate fault code 3712, limiting the vehicle speed to 5 mph. If this is encountered, install a return-line fitting heater (04-31489-000) to prevent further issues.

SPN stands for Suspected Parameter Number which tells you the circuit where the fault occurred. For example, if you had a SPN 1791 code, it would point to a fault detected in the EGR Valve Control Circuit. FMI stands for Failure Mode Indicator which tells you the reason the fault code was set.
