Definition of Class
Is responsible for the efficient operation of the County Prison as prescribed by law; the custody, safety and health of prisoners lawfully incarcerated by the various courts.
Duties & Responsibilities
Comply with applicable Federal, State and County laws and ordinances as they relate to the operation of the Department. Design and implement rules, regulations and operating procedures for staff. Design and implement rules and regulations for prisoner population. Direct the policy of the Department as it relates to operations, security and treatment of the facility. Assist the Personnel Director with negotiation and implementation of labor contracts. Recommend hiring, discharge or discipline of employees.

Proven ability in budgeting, labor relations and the recognized standards of correctional facility operations. Ability to meet and discuss with the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government; the media, police, defense attorneys, prosecutions, and the general public. Excellent communication skills and proven leadership capabilities. Knowledge/experience preferred in the following areas: ACA accreditation process, contract administration, behavioral sciences with emphasis on A & D and Mental Health, work release, direct supervision of unit management.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
Minimum of 7 years of Experience in Corrections
Minimum of 5 years of Supervisory/Management Experience
Or equivalent combination of training and experience
Preferred Qualifications
Masters of Business Administration or Masters of Public Administration
Prison or jail senior management experience at county, state or federal levels.
