Our throwback tour through the decades of Cosworth power continues into the 70s and 80s with the DFX, YB, GBA and HB. Lots of motorsport heritage with these engines but what’s your favourite? #CosworthPower #tbt

At ETS Design we build the transient flywheel system for that one and later on the Thermal control system. Keith was a real hard taskmaster.

The YB engine for me holds many fond memories for me working at Cosworth. When Pete Bartram and myself were put in charge of building a new factory at Wellingborough to build the 5000 engines for the European Touring car championship was the start of 2 years of many long hours and working into the night.Working with Alf, Keith, Ben and Mike gave me a wealth of experience that really was a once in a lifetime experience.I remember when Ford brought the Sierra Development vehicle to the factory, and they suggested Pete and myself take it out for a test drive. This was well before any engine management equipment was installed. Driving it out it was just like a 2.0L ford sierra but when it reached 3000 RPM and the turbo kicked in. Well it was like a rocket had been lit.Coming back on the A45 we reached 135 MPH and still accelerating before we thought we should probably slow down a bit. Those 2 years although very hard was probably my best throughout my whole career.
